2017 SWCD June Meeting Minutes

The Board of Directors of the McLean County SWCD had their regular board meeting on June 14, 2017 at the USDA Service Center, 402 N. Kays Drive, Normal. The meeting was called to order by Chairman Mike Kelley at 7:30 a.m.. Directors present were Irvin Bane and Mikel Fonger.  District employees present were Jackie Kraft and Stephanie Musselman. NRCS employee present was Eric McTaggart.

~Financials/Minutes:  April minutes, Irvin motioned, Mikel seconded. Motion Carried.  Irvin made a motion to approve the financials, Mikel seconded. Motion carried.  Mikel made a motion to approve the June checks for payment.  Irvin seconded. Motion carried.

~Jackie gave the Watershed report as written. The IEPA 319 grant proposal with BCS, LLC has 1050 acres enrolled to date and a field day is planned for June 27th at the BCS Arrowsmith plant. A total of 25 tile locations have been located for the nutrient stewardship grant and testing has begun.  The contribution agreement has been signed for the National Water Quality Initiative Pilot and an outreach meeting will be held July 26 at Davis Lodge.  The picnic area shoreline project at Evergreen Lake has been approved by City Council with a projected start date of September 18th.  To date, 89 watershed surveys have been received to gather baseline data, attitudes and opinions of conservation practices. A fact sheet will be developed for producers and a detailed report will be put on our website.  Conservation Family Day will be held June 17th at Comlara Park from 9:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m.   Watershed transect surveys were completed at the beginning of June.

~ Stephanie gave the District report as written. The NRCS Assistance Agreement will end on June 30.  The CRP Contribution Agreement is almost complete.  We have received $12,861 to date for the agreement, once completed we will receive an additional $10,762.  Conservation Day was held May 11 at the Interstate Center; 301 students attended from 16 classrooms.  Spring sale profits are as follows: Fish Sale $1,046.05, Prairie Plants 303.98, Seed Sales $2,753.71 (combined).  There will be a LUC meeting on June 20th at 11:30 at Weldon Springs.

~Eric gave the NRCS report.  Eric gave an update on the 5 year contribution agreement that will be available for districts.  Rachel Welch has left NRCS to pursue other opportunities.

~New Business:  We received two applicants for the Jim Rutherford Scholarships.  Both applicants will receive $500.00 each.  The next Board Meeting was set for July 12, 2017 at 7:30 a.m. at the USDA Service Center.   The meeting concluded at 8:05 a.m.
