The Board of Directors of the McLean County SWCD had their regular meeting on July 13, 2016 at the USDA Service Center, 402 N. Kays Drive, Normal. The meeting was called to order by Chairman Mike Kelley at 7:35 a.m.. Directors present were Irvin Bane, Sally Breese and Howard Heatherwick. District employees present were Jackie Kraft and Stephanie Musselman. NRCS employee present was Matt Bell.
~Financials/Minutes: June minutes, Irvin motioned, Howard seconded. Motion Carried. Irvin made a motion to approve the July financials, Sally seconded. Motion carried. Sally made a motion to approve the July checks for payment. Howard seconded. Motion carried.
~Jackie gave the Watershed report as written. There has been no word on the IEPA 319 grant funding, but there is now a stopgap budget so hopefully good news will come soon. Construction for the T-2 site at Evergreen Lake is planned to start the week of July 11th. Construction of Spaid’s wetlands is planned for later this summer. The deadline for the application of phase 2 of the IEPA 319 Grant for the social indicator survey is August 1st. Conservation Family Day was June 18th at Comlara Park with 75 in attendance; down from last year. The Soil Health Partnership field day was held June 30th at the Lexington Community Center and the Franklin Farm with 32 people in attendance. Upcoming field days include: Soil Health Partnership August 15th at Davis Lodge and will focus on cover crops, IDOA Field Day August 31st at the ISU farm, Mark Freed’s farm to smoke tile and the ISU tile/cover crop site.
~ Stephanie gave the District report as written. Seed sale profit continues to increase; received a kickback from FDC Enterprises for seed; total profit $14,900.04 for all seed sales this spring. Plat Book sales are continuous and 42 of the 50 recently order have been sold; total profit $3,306.87. CRP Contribution Agreement proposed plan of work has been submitted with 78 partial plans for $23,623. NRCS Assistance Agreement proposed plan of work has also been submitted, reimbursement depends on hours worked each month but could be as high as $11,000 reimbursed at a rate of 75% AISWCD/25% SWCD. Summer Conference will be held July 25-26 at Northfield Inn and Suites in Springfield. McLean County still needs a delegate for the Annual Meeting as Summer Conference. We have received two applications for the Jim Rutherford Scholarship. The Jim Rutherford Golf Outing will be held August 23rd at Crestwicke Country Club. The District newsletter and watershed newsletter are currently in progress. The next Land Use Council 6 meeting will be held July 19th at Crestwicke Country Club from 9 am-1:30 pm.
