The Board of Directors of the McLean County SWCD had their holiday meeting on December 14, 2016 at the USDA Service Center, 402 N. Kays Drive, Normal. The meeting was called to order by Chairman Mike Kelley at 10:00 a.m.. Directors present were Sally Breese, Mikel Fonger and Howard Heatherwick, Irvin Bane. District employees present were Jackie Kraft and Stephanie Musselman. NRCS employees present were Eric McTaggart and Matt Bell.
~Financials/Minutes: November minutes, Howard motioned, Irvin seconded. Motion Carried. Sally made a motion to approve the financials, Irvin seconded. Motion carried. Irvin made a motion to approve the December checks for payment. Howard seconded. Motion carried.
~Jackie gave the Watershed report as written. The IEPA 319 grant has been received, waiting on a signed contract back from IEPA. Waiting to be reimbursed for work performed for the IEPA 319 social indicator survey. The Evergreen Lake Campground Project began November 14th and was completed by November 23rd, the total cost was less than estimated at $104,004.10. Jackie applied for a Fishers & Farmers Grant for a project on Six Mile Creek on the Kelley Family Farm. The presentation was ranked 5th, just waiting to hear if project will be funded. Ben Marks, ISU student, is continuing to conduct interviews with producers for the ISU research project regarding nutrient loss. Jackie has partnered with Mclean County Farm Bureau on a nutrient stewardship grant for nitrate testing in Evergreen Lake watershed. Funding is for $10,978 and will run through August 1, 2017.
~ Stephanie gave the District report as written. The 2017 Spring Fish Sale has been scheduled for March 31st. The district is looking into having a prairie plant sale this spring. The District has been very busy uploading payment documents for CSP and EQIP programs for the NRCS Assistance Agreement. The CIG Two Stage Ditch brochures have been mailed out to the entire mailing list. Checks have been mailed out to those who participated in the Pipeline Cover Crop Program, still waiting on a couple who applied but have not yet sent in seed bills. The district has also been busy assisting Matt Bunger with registration for the Heart of America Grazing Conference.
~ NRCS report. Eric McTaggart gave the NRCS Report. NRCS has been busy with CSP renewals and payments. CSP will soon be reinvented. The ranking will be similar to EQIP. There will also be 10 resource questions to answer. If 2 resource concerns are not met, you are not eligible. Rachel Welch’s official start date for full time at the Normal office is January 23rd.
~New Business: The next Board Meeting was set for January 11, 2017 at 7:30 a.m. at the USDA Service Center. The meeting concluded at 11:00 a.m.
