The Board of Directors of the McLean County SWCD had their regular meeting on April 13, 2016 at the USDA Service Center, 402 N. Kays Drive, Normal. The meeting was called to order by Chairman Mike Kelley. Directors present were Mikel Fonger and Howard Heatherwick. District employees present were Jackie Kraft and Stephanie Musselman. NRCS employees present were Matt Bell and Eric McTaggart.
~Financials/Minutes: March minutes, Howard motioned, Mikel seconded. Motion Carried. Howard made a motion to approve the April financials, Mikel seconded. Motion carried. Mikel made a motion to approve the April checks for payment. Howard seconded. Motion carried.
~Jackie gave the Watershed report as written. The signs will be installed this spring for the Lake Bloomington Shoreline project. Waiting to hear on the IEPA 319 and Fishers & Farmers grants; $96,000 has been requested for a total grant of $161,000. Construction for the T-2 site at Evergreen Lake is planned for this summer. Construction of Spaid’s wetlands is planned for this spring, but may be pushed back to fall. The NLRS meeting planned in cooperation with Farm Bureau was cancelled due to lack of interest. We may host a joint meeting this summer with Dewitt County SWCD. The water testing at our office continues this month on Tuesdays 8-9 am in conjunction with Illinois Corn Growers. The process for phase 2 of the IEPA 319 Grant project has begun which will focus on education and outreach of the social indicator survey. Results of the survey will be presented at the May village board meetings in Hudson and Towanda. Jackie is assisting an ISU student with his thesis by contacting landowners regarding the installation of monitoring equipment in Money Creek.
~ Stephanie gave the District report as written. Spring fish, tree, bare root, and seed sales are doing great so far. Plat books sales are also going great, 20 of the 50 recently ordered have already been sold. The Contractor’s Breakfast was cancelled due to lack of interest. The Pond Management Clinic was held March 15th and had 23 attendants. Jackie and Stephanie assisted at the Land Use Council 6 Envirothon held April 7th at Weldon Springs. The Cover Crop Meeting was cancelled due to lack of interest. The website has now been taken over by staff and updates will happen continuously. Conservation Day is May 5th at the Interstate Center; 418 students have registered for the day.
~ Eric gave the NRCS report. A request has been sent for a GS11 Soil Conservationist; waiting for HR to get the application out.
